What is Tech Knot?
Tech knot is Refactory’s annual open day where the tech industry and our talented student body come together to network and further discuss the opportunities available as they assess the impact that rapidly evolving technology has on the technological ecosystem.
Why?
The goal of the day remains to be the link between aspiring software engineers and tech companies by providing a platform and the knowledge needed to make hiring and being hired- easier and better. With that goal in mind Career day was birthed. Our very first edition of tech knot was known to many as career day. With over 12 companies in attendance and 60 students we were able to understand the needs on those in the industry and our students were also able to get some insights into what employers are looking for and the very terrain of the tech industry.
Last year, 20 companies met with our students to discuss what they look for in candidates, what it is like to work for a tech company, and exchanged lessons on how to best train junior developers. Some of the companies in attendance included: Laboremus Uganda, Fenix International, Tugende, Andela, and MCash. The concept has since evolved to what we now refer to Tech Knot becoming bigger and better every year as we have continuously sought out feedback that can enable us to make better.

Our Bootcamp is designed in a way that allows our students to interact with/ and experience first-hand the workings of a tech company. They are exposed to processes and systems, all in a bid to facilitate their learning journey to becoming software developers. It was this time last year that our Bootcamp apprentices were preparing to hand over the product of 6 months of hard work to the client.
