Refactory is looking for a friendly, creative and detail-oriented storyteller to run our communications and marketing efforts!

The Communications & Marketing Officer will focus on developing and executing a comprehensive marketing strategy for Refactory, a new tech program that is different from anything currently offered in Uganda.

About Refactory

Refactory is an initiative that seeks to address the shortage of skilled software developers in Uganda. Refactory was established with support from the Norwegian Government and implemented by three partners; Clarke International University, Laboremus Uganda and Fontes Foundation. The focus of the program is to equip fresh university graduates/youth with software development as well as personal leadership skills to enable them fully deliver to their potential.


  1. Oversee the development and execution of the Refactory’s brand, marketing and communications plan.
  2. Be responsible for understanding the business model, the program’s purpose and offerings, and positioning the program favorably before target audience(s)
  3. Create innovative and targeted marketing campaigns for the program (quarterly) intakes
  4. Be data-driven and create a strategy for how to best improve communication efforts based on statistics from Google Analytics, Facebook Analytics, etc.
  5. Build Refactory’s reputation and visibility with press, newsletters and thought leadership, in close cooperation with the rest of the team
  6. Handle communication with industry partners, potential partners and other key stakeholders
  7. Host events in close collaboration with the rest of the team

Skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of work experience from marketing or communications.
  • Experience with photography
  • Experience with using graphic design programs like Adobe Photoshop
  • Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal)
  • Tech-savvy, with an interest for and/or knowledge of tech
  • Organized and able to follow through and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to research, design marketing strategies and execute them
  • Self-starter who takes initiatives and sees opportunities
